Residential Licenses
Pet owners in the City of Cleveland are required by ordinance to have their pet licensed. The licenses are available for purchase at the City Clerk's Office at 105 W Caddo Street. The pet owner must provide proof of vaccination and pay one of the following licensing fees:
- $1 for each dog or cat that has been spayed or neutered (must provide proof of sterilization from a veterinarian)
- $2 for each dog or cat that has not been spayed or neutered
All licenses are good for a period of one year, May 1st through April 30th of the following year.
Commercial Permits
City ordinance allows for 2 pets per household. Vendors and breeders may apply for a Commercial Animal Establishment Permit. Information on the application may be obtained at the City Clerk's office located at 105 W Caddo Street
A background check will be conducted to determine if the applicant has been convicted of animal abuse or cruelty charges in the past 10 years. You will be notified of acceptance or denial within 30 days of the application date. Check the City Ordinances (DOC) for details on what type of animals are permitted within the City.
